Quilt Measurements
Measure Your Quilt Top
Measure the finished width and length of your quilt top in inches. These measurements help us calculate your quilting estimate and prepare for your order.
Please measure the quilt top itself, not the batting or backing fabric.
Turnaround Time
Stanrdard & Priority Service
Our standard turnaround time is approximately two weeks, depending on the number of quilts currently in the studio.
Need your quilt sooner? Select Priority Service for a targeted turnaround of 7 business days.
Priority turnaround begins on the business day your quilt is received by Buffalo River Quilt Studio and ends when the completed quilt is shipped back to you. Additional time may be required for binding or other finishing services.
Return-delivery time is not included in the turnaround estimate. Carrier delays may occasionally occur after the quilt leaves our studio.
Quilting Design
Choose Your Pattern
Select a design from our collection of edge-to-edge quilting patterns. These continuous patterns are precisely stitched across your quilt using our Handi Quilter Infinity longarm system.
Patterns are divided into two categories:
Standard Patterns are included in the regular quilting price.
Deluxe Patterns offer more detailed designs that require additional stitching time and thread. Deluxe patterns are include an extra surcharge.
Quilter's Choice
Not sure which pattern will look best? Select Quilter's Choice, and we will choose an edge-to-edge design that complements the fabrics, piecing and overall style of your quilt.
You may include any preferences in the additional instructions section of your order.
Thread Color
Select Your Thread
Choose the thread color you would
like us to use from our selection of OMNI, So Fine! and King Tut professional quilting threads.
You may also include more specific requests in the additional-instructions section, such as:
- Blend with the quilt background
- Coordinate with a particular fabric
- Use a contrasting color
- Avoid certain colors
Thread color can appear differently across light and dark fabrics. Unless otherwise
requested, we will use one thread color throughout the quilt.
Quilter's Choice Thread
Prefer to leave the decision to us? Select Quilter's Choice, and we will choose a complementary thread color designed to blend attractively with the overall quilt.
Backing Fabric
Provide Your Own or Purchase Backing
You may send backing fabric with your quilt top or purchase available backing fabric from Buffalo River Quilt Studio.
Currently, we offer White and Natural White muslin backing.
When providing your own backing, it must extend at least 4 inches beyond the quilt top on all four sides.
Example: A quilt top measuring 60x70 inches requires backing measuring at least 68x78 inches.
Backing Requirements
- Standard-width fabric must be pieced together before it is sent.
- Backing fabric should be clean, pressed and free of pins.
- Remove selvage edges from seams whenever possible.
- Press backing seams open to reduce bulk.
- Pattern matching at backing seams is not guaranteed.
- We make every reasonable effort to center the backing, but exact centering cannot be guaranteed because the quilt top, batting and backing may shift or shrink slightly during quilting.
Minky or Cuddle Backing
Minky and cuddle fabrics may be used for backing with prior approval.
When binding a quilt with Minky or cuddle backing, please provide coordinating cotton fabric for the binding or arrange to purchase suitable binding fabric from the studio.
Batting
Batting types
You can choose to send your own batting.
Alternatively we can provide batting. Our current batting is Quilter's Charm 80/20 Cotton-Poly Batting.
Trimming & Binding
Edge Trimming
If you choose not to have us provide machine binding, your quilt will be returned with the excess batting and backing fabric still attached.
On the order form, you can choose to add edge trimming for now extra charge. We will trim the quilt neatly along its outer edge. Any usable excess fabric will be returned with your quilt.
Machine Binding
Machine binding is available for $0.25 per linear inch.
Please include prepared binding fabric with your quilt. If binding fabric is not provided, we may use excess backing fabric when enough suitable fabric remains.
Machine binding is attached and finished by machine using a straight stitch.
Hand Binding
Hand-finished binding is currently unavailable. We may have a reference soon.
How Binding Is Calculated
Binding charges are calculated using the total perimeter of the quilt: width + width + length + length.
For example, a 60x70 inch quilt has a perimeter of 260 linear inches.
